Turmeric Hummus Recipe   Turmeric is the dried, ground root that colors curries a warm yellow. Its main compound, curcumin, acts as an antioxidant and mild anti-inflammatory and has been linked in early studies to steadier mood and clearer memory. Because curcumin doesn’t absorb well on its own, add a crack of black pepper. The piperine helps your body take it up several times better. Stir about half a teaspoon of turmeric (plus that pepper) into soup, scrambled eggs, or even a smoothie for an easy daily boost.   Makes 1½ cups – about 10 minutes 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed 2 Tbsp tahini 2 Tbsp lemon juice 1 Tbsp olive oil 1½ tsp ground turmeric ½ tsp ground cumin ¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper ½ tsp salt 2–4 Tbsp cold water, as needed Add everything except the water to a food processor. Blend, drizzling in water a tablespoon at a time until smooth, or your desired consistency. Serve with sliced veggies or whole-grain crackers; refrigerate for up to five days. What Fruits and Vegetables can be used for Juicing? Here I have suggested a few items and recipes for now. They are simple and the products can be found just about anywhere. These are for all adults. Beware that you should consult your doctor or medical practitioner first. This information isn’t for replacing any medical advice you may have received. It is only general information. The following list of fruit and vegetables are excellent all-around tonic, blood and kidney cleansers: Beetroot – usually mixed with other vegetables or fruits Apple Carrot Cucumber Celery Grapes Grapefruit Kale Lemon juice Lime juice Papaya (Pawpaw) Pear Pineapple Spinach Swiss Chard (Beetroot leaves) Watercress Mix and match – do a combination, experiment with your taste buds and see what you like. I normally do like equal quantities of each item. Normally I do 4 to 5 items for a combination. You can have just 1 item juiced. It is all up to you. Once you’ve made your juice it’s best to drink it straight away. I also on my busy days make more and place it in the fridge and have it throughout the day and evening. If I am out for meetings I just place it in my water bottle and take it with me in my ice pack bag – I like it chilled. Continue until you have juiced all your ingredients. You can reduce the amount of ginger if you like to less. I like my fruit and vegetables to be cold so when I finish juicing I have a cold drink.
